Friends and Neighbors,
As we enjoy the heart of summer here in our beautiful state, I am reminded of the many reasons we have to celebrate, our rich history, strong communities and the shared values that bring us together. I hope you have all had a wonderful summer so far and have been able to take full advantage of all Utah has to offer, from our scenic trails to our state and national parks and time with loved ones.
I've enjoyed connecting with constituents, visiting communities and preparing for the legislative work. As interim meetings and policy discussions continue in preparation for the 2026 session, I encourage you to stay engaged. You can view upcoming meetings and agendas at le.utah.gov.
Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future
Next year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a powerful milestone in the journey of a country built on the enduring ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. For two and a half centuries, the United States has stood as a beacon of freedom and hope, inspiring people worldwide.
Earlier this month, we officially kicked off the yearlong celebration at the Capitol. As we count down to July 4, 2026, you’re invited to join community events across Utah. Visit www.america250.utah.gov to learn more and get involved.
This historic moment is not just a celebration, it’s a time to reflect, honor those who fought for our freedoms and renew our commitment to the values that unite us. As President Reagan reminded us, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” It is our responsibility to protect and preserve it.
From the vision that shaped the Declaration of Independence to the enduring strength of the Constitution, America’s story is one of perseverance, sacrifice and unity. As we commemorate this milestone, let us take pride in our shared history and work together to create an even brighter tomorrow, with Utah continuing to lead the way through its strong values and pioneering spirit.
May God bless our great state and the United States of America.

Pioneer Day
Pioneer Day commemorates the courageous arrival of the first settlers into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. This special day invites us to honor the bravery, sacrifice and resilience of those early pioneers whose determination laid the groundwork for the thriving communities we call home today. I’m truly grateful for the chance to reflect on this rich chapter of Utah’s history and the enduring values that continue to inspire and shape our state.
Whether you’re joining a parade, enjoying fireworks, spending quality time with family or simply soaking up the summer sunshine, I want to wish you a safe and meaningful celebration!

Your Voice Matters in Local Elections
While national races often capture the spotlight, it’s local elections that shape the day-to-day life of our communities. Municipal leaders are the ones who maintain our streets, fund our schools and help keep our neighborhoods safe. These races deserve your attention and your vote.
The municipal primary elections are coming up next month. Here are a few important dates to keep in mind:
Mail-in Ballots: If you've opted in to receive a ballot by mail, keep an eye on your mailbox as ballots will begin arriving this week.
Voter Registration Deadline: The last day to register to vote in the primary election is Friday, August 1.
Primary Election Day: Tuesday, August 12. This is the final day to cast your ballot in person. Additionally, mail-in ballots must be received by election officials on this day to be counted.
General Election Day: Tuesday, November 4
Make a plan to vote, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. Local decisions start with you. Visit vote.utah.gov for more information.
Wildfire Prevention and Status in the State of Utah
As we move through the peak of wildfire season, fire safety remains a top priority across the state. With over 500 wildfires reported in Utah so far in 2025, it’s clear that continued awareness is essential, especially as many of these fires were human-caused and preventable.
Thanks to increased public awareness, stronger fire restrictions and coordinated efforts between state and local agencies, Utah has seen fewer large-scale fires this July compared to previous years. The state’s wildfire management strategy, outlined in the 2025 Wildfire Management Report, focuses on community education, defensible space planning and improved coordination with local and federal partners.
Together, we can help protect our communities, landscapes, and first responders. For more information on wildfire risk in your area, visit the Utah Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal.
Shape the Future of Capitol Hill
Sitting high above the Salt Lake Valley, Capitol Hill welcomes visitors and guests year-round to explore and learn about the rich history and heritage of our state. The Capitol grounds feature commemorative monuments that honor influential Utahns and pivotal events that have shaped the state’s identity. Now, in a rare and exciting opportunity, the Capitol Preservation Board is accepting applications for the addition of a new large-scale commemorative element, scheduled for installation in 2027. Additions of this magnitude are rare, happening only once every 100 years!
It’s a privilege to represent and serve you!
Best,
Ron Winterton
